What's the process of creating the Civilian Uniform? That pale blue featureless thing? I don't think it's any accident that 'base' civilians are issued a thin, boring generic outfit that is probably one-size-fits-all, too thin for a cold climate, too plastic for a hot climate, manufactured by machine out of extruded polymer product.īut as they climb up the ladder, the clothing gets progressively more complex, environmentally appropriate and protective. Combine can't take away clothing because it's required for survival, but they don't want it used for expression because that's antithetical to their end goal of humans-as-components. So they encounter humans, who require clothing for environmental protection and utilize it for cultural expression both. not all that mobile and 'wear' their encasement-thing.
Granted we never get a chance to see what Vorts were doing prior to enslavement, Grunts aren't really an independent species and the Combine grubs themselves are. Specifically, far as I know no other Combine species that we see uses clothing as environmental protection or as cultural expression. I'm thinking about HL2-timeline stuff again.
