This time it just indicates that the free space is insufficient. This time though windows clearly indicates why it failed to upgrade.įor the first computer the logs indicated the amount of free space that it was looking for and the amount of free space within the partition. Now I have a second computer that has failed to upgrade. The computer was unable to upgrade due to the amount of free space within the reserved partition. In order to figure out the problem I had presented the panther logs on technet and someone was able to decipher the logs and find the problems.įixing the problems was the next challenge. In March there was an early period to upgrade to Windows 1703 and my computer failed to upgrade. When Windows 1607 fails to upgrade to Windows 1703 it may or may not provide an explanation of the failure. I am hoping one of you might have some suggestions or a validation process to proceed through, as a starter. Also, that would take many hours to accomplish given the applications that would need to be re-installed. I am afraid that if I try a wipe O/S and re-install that it might not work, for the same reason the upgrades are failing. If not, rather than just trying something, (I've spent months working on this), are there some diagnostics I can start with?

So, is this a known issue? Then what shall I do? While I'm relatively computer literate, I used to work as a machine language programmer, and have been able to follow the documented workarounds I've found, nothing seems to work. However, WINVER continued to display I'm on version 1607, and the system has regularly since tried and failed to update to 1703. because my update history shows that one update, on 30-Aug-17 did succeed (KB4033637). I've continued to wait to see if there would be any improvements to the upgrade process that would benefit me, but none have worked so far.Įach time save one, I check after the reboot, I get the 'Feature Update to Windows 10, Version 1703 - Failed to Install on xx-mmm-yy. I forget the name of it, but there was also a tool I used to check/validate all the upgrade settings on my system. I have tried the commonly documented workarounds, such as clearing the upgrade database, using different download media, etc. My system is not having success upgrading from 1607 to 1703.
